Non-Newtonian Thickener Fluids are substances that have a variable viscosity, because when relaxed, without any tension or force applied to them, they are flexible/soft, however, when a force is applied or suffers an impact, the Non-Newtonian Fluid quickly becomes stiff hard, compact on the surface. Later, when it is no longer tensioned or compressed, it returns to the initial inert state.
There are some experiments done with the Non-Newtonian Fluid Oobleck where, people can run over the surface of a swimming pool filled with the Non-Newtonian and DO NOT sink …. however, if they stay still over the Non-Newtonian Fluid, then they sink …You are able to watch it at link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= tvRc4BAYtsk
Tests have already been carried out in the ballistic vest segment where the Non-Newtonian Fluid was impregnated on the Kevlar® aramid fabric and subjected to shots of .9mm caliber bullets and submachine guns, obtaining an impressive result of reduction of the deformation due to impact (trauma ) and also the final weight of the ballistic panels. You can see in the video on Youtube of the company Moratex as the title, “Liquid Armor! . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlaMWuRIX4I&ab_channel=PCABrazil
The LiquidShield â„¢ STF, Non-Newtonian Fluid for use in the ballistic vest sector, was developed by the Polyanswer Company in partnership with PCA Consulting and is already in final tests at an industrial level. Other applications of LiquidShield â„¢ with STF technology, are being tested in motorcycle clothing, helmets, and gloves, where the impact of a fall can generate major trauma.
